Being newly single, my jokesters of a boss and project manager continually ask me questions about my personal life. They are curious as to what stage of the sales funnel prospective dates are falling into and generally relate my personal life to any marketing term possible. This got me thinking about how similar the dating and sales funnel actually are.
Both funnels can sometimes be a mess of nerves, awkward silences, and strained communication but can also end up happily ever after if things run smoothly. Unlike a monogamous relationship however, the ultimate goal as a marketer during the sales funnel should be to always keep it moving and full of different levels of le.
The tinder sales funnel
In this stage of the sales funnel, the goal is to work on building a relationship with the new prospect and learn about their needs and expectations. An effective way to keep someone moving through this stage is to get them to download an eBook, whitepaper, or webinar offer where you receive their information and they become a lead that you can contact.
In terms of the dating world, we would consider this giving someone your and going out on a first date. You meet someone and are interested in them and they offer you the opportunity to get your. You are interested in them but want to find out more about who they are so you give them your information. Then they contact you and you go on a first date, obviously a little interested but unsure if you want to commit to anything just yet.
The goal is to get to know the other person and to see if your personalities fit together. In this state you want to engage them in even more beneficial content such as a case study, demo, or consultation.
Middle of the funnel dating is similar to a middle of the funnel sales level. After the top of funnel first date, the middle of the funnel is focused on getting to know each other more.
Specific likes and dislikes are discussed while considering a commitment but not completely submerged in the relationship yet. Similar to the sales funnel, this middle of the funnel level can last from a week to a few months depending on the type of person. In this level of the sales funnel, your prospects are nurtured and considering a long-term commitment.
At this point, the prospect is not completely sold on your product or service but is almost there. Generally, trust has been established and pricing has been discussed.
A more in-depth and personalized consultation could be appropriate for this level. If all goes well, the prospects that make it to the bottom of the funnel will turn into customers after the necessary conversations for this funnel.
Conversations about what you both want have been had and trust is established between the two people. If a date makes it down to this level of the funnel and dates continue to go well, chances are a serious relationship will occur.
