What does the Bible say about?
You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.
Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. How do you read it? So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.
How to "love your neighbor as yourself" - bible meaning of mark
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.
And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another.
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.
Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. You shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother.
But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every charge may be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses. If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector. There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.
'love thy neighbor as thyself' – is it still practical?
Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more ificant than yourselves. But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. Let brotherly love continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have?
Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same?
See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him.
And to love him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the strength, and to love one's neighbor as oneself, is much more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices. But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him?
So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. For this is the message that you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. And may the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all, as we do for you. I have been crucified with Christ.
It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
